Inspired by the recent Bass Guitar thread, I thought a steel guitar thread might be a good idea.

That's some great music! Isla, what's your own picking genre/repertoire?

That's some great music! Isla, what's your own picking genre/repertoire?I played in blues bands for a long time, so I play some slide guitar, as well as regular guitar. But I like to think I have pretty broad tastes, and I like pretty much anything that involves people playing real instruments, i.e. not synthesizers etc. :D

One of my favorite versions of this Charley Patton tune - it's pretty "real":

This is great, keep them coming guys. I love David Lindley, he did some great work with Jackson Brown.

Here's another great lady...OK I know I've posted this on one of Bud's old blues threads, but I'm in love with Bonnie Raitt...

This guy is more noted for his production than his own work, but he can really play a steel guitar:

Summa you guys are confusing steel guitar with slide guitar. Different animals altogether.I wouldn't disagree with you on that point. So let's just ignore my thread title, and I will declare that the thread is open to discussion, and examples of, of all kinds of pedal steel, lap steel, dobro, bottleneck guitar, and any style where the player slides a glass or metal object on the strings instead of/or as well as, fingering the frets. There are some great examples of all these styles being presented here, so let's not put people off with semantics. Keep it up folks you're doing fine.

Well ok, since Isla was kind enough to open the gate . . . Beck does some sliding in the first song, uses his guitar to fill in the voice track on the second one and the last song features a busload of talented string stretchers.

That's a great set. I love Jeff Beck, and that looks like the same band lineup, with Tal Wilkenfeld on bass, as the famous gig at Ronnie Scotts' club. If you haven't seen it here's the link..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ndyILodYwM
