I would like to thank you all for the good abvises and comments and tricks on multiple subjects. With your help i just made a 12 ft 4 in. Catboat using standard ply and home depot ext. Paint (5 coats well cured ) polytarp standing lugsail 77 sq ft. ( some would say ugly sail, but it WORKS ) on a spruce lumber mast 13 ft long x 2.5 inches rounded the best i could. as i didn t want to take too much chances, i used brass screws and PL premium all around the hull . I know the boat was built as fast as i could and could look better than what it looks now..i mean the finishing isn t perfect. But for 450$ (canadian money, i live in montreal ) and modified trailer that a had for free i just couldn t ask for more. Tryed the boat yesterday, very little wind, not a drop leak and i could sail upwind despite the current in the lake . In short i m proud of my boat thaks you all.

If you tell me it can t be done, l will make it, just to show you

2587Here she is with my wife and myself. First run on lac des deux montagnes near montreal it s a lake formed by a river enlargement so there is some current in there

I would go for a 15 or 18 footer but my car is an automatic toyota yaris, wich is able to tow her own weight and not much so i have to keep the size around 12 to 15 i guess. My next project will be to cut the defenitive sail(dacron or such material ) for that boat once the test sail will be ok

Love it! Somehow it's refreshing, simple quick build, nothing fancy, it just works. excellent.

Good stuff. You got down to it, didn't get convinced by all the talk about how everything has to be so fancy, and just built it. Well done, I say.
