I just posted this on ole wobbly's bike thread... but it probably deserves a stand-alone.

Who'd have ever thought that a bicycle racer would cheat, eh?

A few years ago Fabian Cancellara was accused of having a motor in the Tour of Flanders.

Nothing ever came of it, as I recall.

If electric motors and battery packs were light and durable enough to last an average professional road bike stage, we'd all be using them by now.

As far as that particular clip goes, the direction the bike takes on the ground would mean that an unattended motor was spinning the rear wheel backwards.

And the UCI checked out the bikes: http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/latest-news/ryder-hesjedals-clockwork-cervelo-uci-checks-garmin-sharp-bikes-134803

This is right up there with alien abduction Ian. Those bikes weigh 17lbs, it doesn't take much energy from a spinning wheel to move it after a crash. I know you're just joking but if you're seriously implying a bike racer can hide a useful amount of energy AND motor in a racing bike to not be visibly apparent then you've got an energy source the MIC would be all over.

I saw a van Sunday from a company advertising electric bikes. I'm amazed how "clean" they look. The technology has really come a long ways.

Maybe with one of these and a change of 'water bottle' concealing a freshly charged battery every 10-15 minutes...

Sure, same suspension travel and the engine off, it's downhill anyway.
