Residents of Virginia’s Seventh Congressional District won’t be able to meet their representative at a town hall during the August recess because they won’t have one as of Aug. 18. Their congressman, Eric Cantor, announced his resignation a few days ago after losing the Republican primary in June to someone further to the right. Ostensibly, he did so to give his successor slightly higher seniority (which might mean nothing more than a better office), but the real reasons are more venal.

Mr. Cantor, who was the House majority leader and clearly didn’t want to spend four months as a backbencher, is about to embark on the next phase of his life, which inevitably involves making a lot of money. His aides and colleagues told Politico (http://dyn.politico.com/printstory.cfm?uuid=46BFC5D5-7D6F-4A7F-81E3-9A922BBF2A74) that he is already looking for a job in the private sector, ideally with a hedge fund, a private equity firm, or a big bank. So let the favor-trading begin.

“He’s got a lot of private-sector friends he has done favors for,” Tom Davis, another former Republican congressman from Virginia, told The Times Magazine (http://www.nytimes.com/2014/07/20/magazine/eric-cantor-is-on-the-market.html) a few weeks ago. “I think it would be easy for him to become Eric Cantor Inc. and make a few million dollars a year.”

Yeah but what about FDR? How come you blame everything on Bush? Now you're dredging up Nixon. Nobody listens to Rush Limbaugh except liberals and they are positively obsessed with Sarah Palin as they wait for a new messiah now that the shine is off Obama.
