View Full Version : Advice on HEPA filter wanted

I'm gonna buy me that Hitachi plunge router from Amazon - 169. Seems like a great price. If I spend 200 bucks, I get a 25 dollar coupon.

I have a Fein Turbo II Vac (which I love). So I'm thinking of getting the HEPA filter for it. Am I nuts? Is it really necessary? I'm thinking it could help when sanding my western red cedar hull, or the epoxy (I already use an appropriate 3M face mask for the latter). I don't want to THROW money away, but I figured I'd ask you folks what you think. TIA.

I will weigh in as truely in favor of you getting a HEPA filter. Dust masks do almost nothing to block out the very fine particulate, which is the stuff that gets into your airways (even ends up in the bloodstream)and can cause some serious long term health risks. HEPA can mitigate this.

With some thought you can get the HEPA filters from Home Depot to fit, and save a bunch of money.

I started with duct tape, but ended up making adapters from plastic sheet and rod. Now all my filters cost less! ;) :D

The bag filter material looks interesting too.....hmmm!! smile.gif

I think the bag is a good idea, esp if you go with the HEPA filter as the bag will cut down on the amount of stuff that makes it to the filter.

I've got the little FEIN, and I use bags for someother vac that cost about half the price and fit nearly perfectly.

Brian, Personally I'd spend the money for the Fein bags as I've had nothing but problems with other brands. Once I ended up with some Porter Cable bags but they didn't seal properly and make a mess of the filter. So, what I do is use the Fein 1 micron filter and the Fein bag. I sand a lot of resin and paint and wood. I detect no dust at all. The hepa filter is , in my opinion a bit overkill for dust. I use disk of 220 grit often and still nothing out that I can detect. If some type of toxic fume is being generated then by all means HEPA and it certainly won't hurt anything other than you billfold to go that way. Spend the extra to get the right bags though.
