When I saw the brickwork in that spiral staircase, I thought of you, Phillip, and wondered what you'd think of it. Quite a piece of work...

Phillip, have you by chance read Ken Follets Pillars of the Earth about the building of Europe's great cathedrals? If you haven't and you like historical fiction you might enjoy it, if you have read it, I'd be interested in your take on the building descriptions.

more than shows... all those corbels have to be counter balanced with more brick

look at the reveal on the 'spiraling' brick and note that it starts out (lower left) with a level plane then gets progressively angled from that horizontal as it disappears from view and the reveal simultaneously grows to expose more and more of the bottom of the brick.

no (I looked again to be sure). but there's something going on and the spiral accelerates with the rise. Maybe if I had a better angle of view I could be sure.
