I had a heck of a time finding gudgeons and pintels for my 16' double ender. I ended up having just pintels on the rudder and using eyebolts as gudgeons into the stem. It took some searching to find small enough eyebolts so the pintels didn't rattle around. It worked for me.

Lumber:

In addition to being a small European freshwater fish, a gudgeon is:

1. a metal pin or shaft at the end of an axle, on which a wheel turns.
2. the socket of a hinge, into which the pin fits.
3. the part of a shaft that revolves in a bearing.

A pintle is a pin or bolt upon which some other part pivots or turns. Interestingly it's root includes 'penis'

In sailor talk, they appear to be rudder hardware.

In New York City, pigeons are considered to be "rats with wings"
