June 30, 1864 the Yosemite Grant Act was signed into law by President Abraham Lincoln. This is the first instance of park land being set aside specifically for preservation and public use by action of the U.S. federal government.

since they got away with that, now look what their doing......
Remember, at that time, the states held the power and the feds
were just a loose knit conglomerate of "independent" states
