very pleased to see an american superbike of this quality

Simpler is better, except when complicated looks really cool.

Interesting what passes for 'good looking' these days. I can understand the engineering and performance needs that drive the look... but that don't mean I have to enjoy it.

All the crotch rockets look similar to me. I am too old school.

To see how different this is from an engineering perspective you need to develop an eye for the details. Look at the front brake, for instance. Virtually all the other bikes of this type you can buy today use a pair of 320mm rotors with the calipers mounted radially and the disc attached to the hub. Buell's brake disc is mounted to the rim, and there is only one assembly using an eight piston caliper. That's not the only place he has employed independent thinking. The origami look is a bit more ubiquitous (I don't think it's overdone here) but the engineering solutions are what sets it apart. Buell's an advocate of mass centralization.

No doubt fashion does tend to mute the visual differences of products from any given era when it comes to design.

Here's the direct competition from an acknowledged design leader.

One of the most enduring qualities of an old wooden boat is the smell it imparts to your clothing.

This looks like a parody on crotch rockets. The little computer fan stuck on, the foot peg closets, the passenger ejection seat and the flat bottom line makes it look like a comic book sketch.

I agree. It looks like something from a Transformers movie that Shia LeBeouf should be riding. What happened to flowing, eye pleasing lines?

Forget the styling; they all look like that, for better or worse. There's more interesting engineering and new ideas in an Eric Buell bike that any five from other manufacturers. Nice work!

                      Power .

So much power that I wouldn't be game to ride one . I know my abilities .

What Pless is trying to tell you without using his keyboard is Buell has really started to boogy now that he has cast off from the Harley-Davidson mamery. Free at last, free at last, etc.

There's a new EBR dealer in Detroit, will try to get down there soon.

Modern superbikes are so chock-full of modern day technology you just cannot easily wrap it all in smooth flowing covers.

the 'fuel tank' on the buell is actually a tuned and ported airbox for the air intake manifold, the fuel is carried in the frame, as is the oil reservoir for the dry sump
