We are trying to locate a source for painters' whiting. Our seam putty is not quite flush (by microns!) so we want to use it to fill before progressing with the painting.

If the stuff sold to painters is that same as the stuff sold to people who work with clay (potters, and the like) then you should be able to get it in quantity and at a good price from any good supplier of ceramic materials. I expect it is the same stuff because Whiting is simply calcium carbonate (CaCO3). What you would be looking for is a place that sells the raw materials used for clays and glazes. Most major cities over here have one such place (mixed in amongst a lot of places that sell things like pre-fired ceramic objects for people to paint tongue.gif ).
