There was a thread some time back that I couldn't find that refered to "silver" tarps. Quite a bit thicker than the light "blue" tarps I have been using. I tried Northern Hardware but came up empty. Any one have a source for these heavier tarps???????????? Roger

I can't get the url for the catalog page to paste in right, but try here (http://www.northerntool.com) and search on "silver tarps". Northern Tool & Equipment has them. They're nylon/polyethylene laminate, intermediate between the ubiquitous cheap blue ones and the expensive polyester ones.

I've ordered both white and silver from this place. http://www.tarps.com/ They are better grometed and seamed and heavier weight than others I've had including Northern, Harbor Freight and the local Ace Hardware.

Ah, but how do they stand up to sunlight? I've had silver as well as blue ones rot out within a season or two.

My advice would be to go for canvas.

I used the silver "heavy duty" tarp from Northern over a temporary building shelter and found that it would not last two seasons on coastal Carolina. I think that a coat of paint sprayed on when new would greatly extend the life. On plain polyethlene side walls, the painted part lasted longer than the silver tarp.

There is a silver tarp used to cover hay bails. It is lined with a black material. It lasts quite well but is heavy and the scantlings of some boat shops may need sistering to use it.

Available at farm supply shops as mentioned above.

TSC stores carry them too. I use one for my boat, and so does my dad.
