I've stumbled onto a homebuilt houseboat that a small family is apparently living in here in Portland OR. The builder, Than Monk, designed it after a Chinese "flower boat", crossed with a shanty boat and a small outboard. I find it fascinating, perhaps worthy of an article in the magazine. Anyone else?

Very nice. I've never see it. And I just spend 3 hours yesterday on that stretch of the Willamette. Where does it usually hang out?

They seem to move around. I think they spend a fair bit of time tied up to Cathedral Park. I plan to look them up in a few days when I have a little more time.

I'm very tempted to drive down and have a look.

Its better looking than I expected. Good for them! Living as nomads on that river usually looks more..... derelict.

I just saw it at the dock on the Esplanade (east side, right downtown). Hoping to chat with the owner, but apparently no body home. Its really quite lovely-- must be 8x24'? I've dreamed of something similar, but more on the lines of Sam McKinney's "The Reach of Tide."

I checked out their FB page. I'm surprised how mobile they are. Very cool.
