OK its not a boat question but this seems the best place to ask. Big stuff up and inadvertantly purchased litres/gallons of gloss paint for the cottage when it should have been 'Low Sheen'. Paint is a local brand, Wattly Solargard acrylic. Any way I can 'flatten' it out with some stir in addition?
Paint store says no, can only paint over with a clear flattening agent, which does not sound like a great idea to me.

Any advice appreciated, help try and save a relationship. Where is The Chemist when you need him ?!

Titanium dioxide at low concentrations delustres nylon yarn. It's not a common supermarket product, but baby powder is a finely divided mineral, talc. It would be worth trying a little to see if it does anything-say 1% at the most.

you could try calcium carbonate (tums for the tummy, chaulk, gypsum, drywall etc.) too. also remember to "grind" any mineral flattening agents well into the paint. grind here means to stir, disperse it, extremely well with a power mixer on a drill. may need a thinner added. work on a small scale first.

assuming you have a white acrylic latex. can a quart of same flat paint added get the right sheen?

"Fear makes the wolf bigger than he is".

Yeah, I did that earlier this year. SWMBO was not impressed. Knowing the job would need more than one coat, I used it for the base coats then added a final coat over the top. Mind you, that was indoors but I'd still call that a safer bet than adding stuff to the paint.

I've now painted three houses. Still hopeless at it. Haven't learned to like it yet. Trying to ignore the growing signs that I'll have to do this house again soon, not to mention the outside I haven't touched yet.

Cheers

If the cans are unopened and otherwise unblemished, won't the paint store exchange them? Or is it a custom mixed color?
