a cabinet- or really a special room that functions like a speaker box. Here's what I came up with, still on the shop floor where I built it.

The sound shutters behind the grill still has to be added, as is the roof of the cabinet. But at this point, I've done all I can do alone in the shop. Now I take it apart in 6' x 12' sections that will pass through the church doors. I'll have to hire a crew for this and hope it gets there in one piece.

Now the real fun begins. At the church, each section will have to be hoisted 15' up onto a loft over looking the nave. This is damn heavy as construction is 2x4, sheathed in 1/2 MDO or oak plywood. But I shall rent a hand crank geni lift that will handle 600 lbs up 16'.

Only after assembly can the organ technician go about the process of assembling the Wicks 4 rank pipe organ within. I've had many doubts about this project but actually everything is working out. I think I'm getting some divine help.

Cool project.

You no doubt know that J S Bach was better known as an organist and organ builder than as a composer in his life. There's a story that he'd built an organ for some princeling who was off at the wars, finsished up with first tuning, and was giving the new instrument the sort of workout that only Bach could do. The princeling had returned home and was lurking behind a colum. At the end of Bach's bit, the princeling came up to the organ loft and exclaimed, "You are either an angel sent from heaven or Johann Sebastian Bach. Here, take this ring."

A family friend and his partner built a whole house to house a full scale church organ, complete with screen, battle pipes, the lot. And 2 concert grand pianos as well. Built on the side of a mountain remote from neighbours, the whole floor vibrated when the bass pipes were in use.
This was 40 years ago when being 'gay' was a criminal offence here and the police had free reign as to what happened in the cells. But Russ was a major importer of women's shoes int Aus and his partner an international concert pianist. A bit too rich, and too many contacts to touch.

Dale, for a full experience visit Mantes la Jolie 50km from Paris. The C12th cathedral there has free organ recitals incl JS Bach from a "more than competent" organist. The acoustics are amazing.
