Thanks, gents. Mcmaster shows #2 x 1/2. That's all I was able to find elsewhere as well. Maybe no one needs 2 x 5/8 anymore.

Unless there is something very critical about the diameter of #2 wood screws for your use, maybe you can use #3, just slightly greater diameter. Jamestown Distributors has
#3 x 5/8. If it has to be #2, how about snipping off the tip of #2 x 3/4? Jamestown has those. They don't have #2 in bronze or stainless.

Jeff: Just browsing through the Lee Valley-Veritas catalog. They have #2x5/8 brass flathead slotted screws. Item #91Z02.04, $2.70 for a box of 100. 1-800-871-8158.

Jeff,
My standard in the region is Tacoma Screw Products. I have no clue if they'd have them or where your nearest branch is, but I'd give them the first call. Check the phone book. #2x5/8" is pretty tiny, what are you using these for? I've often found that in small sizes, machine screws work just as well.
Good Luck,
Jamie

Thanks for the positive fix at Lee Valley-Veritas catalog! And I'll give the Tacoma folks a call as well, Jamie. Why such small screws, Jamie? Well, in replacing the forward hatch, I'm reusing the original iroko hatch overhang (other boaty name here?), which are about 1/4 square strips. The 5/8 screws hold these in place.
Thanks again, all. What a resource youse guys are!
