Seaplane returns to Auckland skies (http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=11167970)

I'm trying to think of a suitable special occasion to deserve splashing out on tickets. 20th anniversary is coming up but I'm not sure Bridgit is as enthusiastic about seaplanes as me.

Fitting that it's a Beaver.

Make it a 'two part splash'. The plane ride (with her) for your pleasure, & what she'd like (with you) for hers. It's a Win - Win!

'slong as the bank isn't smashed beyond recognition by the occasion.. ;-)

One of Canada's greatest contributions to Aviation. If I won a gazillion dollars I'd have a DH Beaver on floats in my stable for sure. I'd feel safer in a 1961 Beaver than a 2013 Airbus (or name your modern aircraft) any day of the week.

I flew in one of those from Sitka to Port Alexander, Alaska. God, it was slow. Crossing the pass from the outside coast against a headwind, we seemed to hang in the air motionless about a hundred feet above the rocks.

But it we made it.
