I have been checking out the rudder bearing and seal on my 1964 S&S Rainbow 24'
sloop and was wondering how much play is acceptable on the rudder shaft/bearing?
I can grab hold of the rudder and move it some. But, how do you determine how much is
too much? Does the fit have to be tight enough not to leak? I realize there's a
seal (rubber hose) to prevent water from filling the bilge.
