Author of such childrens books as 'One Morning In Maine', 'Burt Dow, Deep-Water Man', 'Blueberries For Sal'.
For most of us that raised children in the era prior to TV and, those of you who kept that under control later, this man's works usually set in Maine are true childrens gems.
NY Times has a nice obit story on his life and works.

Good stories.
Good illustrations.
Our children grew up with his books.
Too bad he's gone.
He leaves a worthy monument behind, in his books.

Wow! Seems like alot of great people all going at the same time. My kids were raised with us reading his books to them. Don't forget "Make Way for Ducklings". Ker-plunk, ker-plunk.The sound of those blueberrys falling into Sal and Moms bucket, just before they got separated and ended up with bears. Finest kind. RIP

I spent large amounts of time as a young child, looking for peppermint stripe band-aids thanks to Mr. McCloskey...
