Hi all -

I'm sure the info is out there, but I know some reading this have already figured out the best apps and the best way to go about this so...

I'm going to get my 12-year old grandson an iPad mini for his birthday.

He was wonderful with mine over the summer, treated it with respect, only used it after asking, and with a couple of exceptions never even opened any of my apps (except Netflix - and even then never made a move to look at anything outside of the kids and family line).

I can add him to my data plan for peanuts, but want to strictly limit any internet usage, but he needs to be able to get to Netflix and a couple of authorized sites. Obviously I don't have any problem with learning sites or learning games - something moderately more educational than Mario Brothers.... And I'd like the damn thing to turn off (internet at least) when he hits the allotted data limit.

There must be an app for that.

Thanks all & I miss you guys (and gals) - just busy busy busy :(

I got a Griffin armored case for mine. Without a case it's slippery but I wanted more drop protection than a regular case.

Blurb on the news awhile back about an app that shuts down the machine at a programmed time. Unfortunately, that's all I know.

Grand daughter got a Nook HD+ which allows several profiles. Mom and dad's require passwords kids doesn't. It has access to Google Play, millions of apps, second only to Apple.

You might want to consider this Kindle (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CU0NSCU/ref=sa_menu_kdpso). It's being called the Kindle For Kids, and is only $139. It starts shipping this week.
