Quali starts tomorrow morning at 0900 EDT

Raikkonen, the lap record holder has just announced he will be racing again at Ferrari next year alongside Fernando Alonso. I wonder how that will play out on Sunday?

in the absence of real on track racing, f1 fans have to manufacture soap opera dramas to maintain their own interest. . .

Ya, I'm trying to find out where he got injured.

I'm not expecting much from Kimi this weekend. He's too much of a pragmatist to take risks for no reward.
He won't be with Lotus next year so is not motivated to improve their record. He can't really achieve much in the remainder of the year with a fourth rate car. There's no point in interfering with his new team mate, Alonso's chances for WDC points in 2013.

Lotus are way behind with his wages again this year, which doesn't help motivate a driver, either.

Webber is showing the stuff he's made of in these final races of his F1 career.

I bet he qualifies in p2 again.

Well, he is a better driver than the boy. You seen the Top Gear episodes? Same car... Webber did Vettel by 0.9 seconds.

It's all about the motivation on the day, isn't it?

Vettel would gain nothing by beating Webber on Top Gear and by losing, appears more human, which we both know, he's not!

When a driver has no reservations to slow them down and is consumed with the desire to win they can do superhuman things.

If there's a finnigilly problem in the corner of their mind, like "who will I be driving for next year" or "when do I get paid" it slows them down.

Conversely, telling a driver he's too old for F1 can have an extreme motivational effect.

Races first must be won in the head of the winner.

Hour and a half till the lights go out.

And then just 6 more races for the venerable V-8.

Next year, engines will be 1600cc, 6 cylindered and contain 15% fewer parts, despite the addition of a turbocharger.

Each car will only be allowed 5 engines for the entire season, requiring each motor to last 4000 K.

The smaller engines will be compensated with an increase in electric motor output to 161bhp.

This new engine size, being more compatible with real world automobiles, has revived interest in F1 for several manufacturers, in addition to Honda, who have already announced their return to F1 with their former partner, McLaren.

Toyota, VW/Audi and even Ford are contemplating returning to Formula 1 now that engine development will more directly benefit the cars they actually sell. This same strategy in the reverse is why we lost BMW when V10 engines were discontinued in F1.

The decision to use 1600 cc, sixes has even attracted Hyundai to consider becoming involved, although I suspect the introduction of the Korean GP in 2010 was the primary factor.

How will Massa react today having been 'thrown under the bus' by Ferrari?

Does he drive like he's looking for a new ride or a driver who's fed up?

I'm thinking his number one goal today will be to keep Alonso behind him and I don't see him being gentle about it.
