Wonder if it would work in the US? Proabably not, too much money involved, and way too much media circling like shatks looking for potential "raw" meat.

It's a shame they did that, most of these girls are washed-up by the time they're twenty, that's only four years they get for a grab at the brass ring(actually PVD plastic).

Surely if the exploitation of children is a bad thing, market forces alone would act to grind these events down beneath the invisible thumb.

Les Français doivent être félicités pour cette décision sage et humaine.

Comme Maurice Chevalier a chanté, "Dieu merci pour les petites filles", en effet.

Nanny States worth their salt have variants of single payer health insurance. You guys are wannabees ... exceptional ones. :D

My, how cultures change, eh?

For all our modern homage to things sexual, I cannot now imagine a song sung by a Grandfatherly man thanking Heaven that little girls grow up into astonishing young hotties being a lasting international hit. My university and high school aged kids would find it the height of "creepiness."

Fabulous song though - I played in the pit orchestra for "Gigi" when I was in high school, and always looked forward to it coming up in the show. But the characters and gender role portrayals were anachronistic then - now, theyr'e almost impossible to put on the stage.

Market forces? The same ones that see 12 year old 'models' in skimpy outfits on the fashion circuit and the videos and catalogues on porn sites? What a croc.
