Up the UK east coast, down through the Caledonian Canal, cruise the West coast of Scotland, round Cape Wrath, visit Scapa Flow and so down the East coast again and home: see you towards the end of August...

Morse code aside, fair winds, Ian of the Right. That sounds like a fantastic cruise.

I wouldn't know one VOR from another if they didn't write the code out on the sectionals. I just happened to see an article in Ocean Navigator reporting that the governing body that deals with morse code recently came up with AC run togeather as the code for the @ sign used in email addresses.

Thanks Norm' I'm studying for my six pack (OUPV) and keep running into arcane things which the Coast Guard expects you to know but which I've never run into (pun intended) I thought you'd introduced me to anther one.

Well, this is the worst case of thread drift I've ever been a part of.

Ian starts out with a description of a wonderful cruise through strange lands with strange sounding names, and we end up talking about Norm's missing dit. :D

Don't forget the camera, Ian. (envy gremlin).

I figure Ian is happily esconsed aboard Patience so his thread is fair game. Serves him right. Now as to the Morris code, the only sequence I thought I remembered is C Q , dah di dah dah dah di dah. Could I really be ditless? Oh yes I could. redface.gif I better stick to picking my nose.

I have to report a sighting of Ian Wright, this evening.

He came to tea, accompanied by Rob Williamson (who singlehands his Bermudian Vertue, "Maid of Tesa", often in company with "Patience") to return Mirelle's set of Blake spanners and spares, and to present a very fine bottle of Glenfiddich and an even finer canvas bucket, with finely wrought lanyard, as a thank you.

They drank their tea, complained of northerly winds, observed that on their trip to Ireland and back a few years ago they covered 2,080 miles all but 40 of which were to windward, and departed, bearing a copy of the RCC Journal for 1938, to be read in the event of further contrary winds.

The Jolly sailor is going to lose money on this trip....
