Road and Track has implemented a column called "Go Lutz Yourself" in which Bob Lutz takes questions from the peanut gallery. It's the last page in the book, a good spot. Out of this month's column, one sample question and answer are offered for your review.

Dear Bob,
Listen, I trust my girlfriend. She's never done anything wrong by me and without her in my life, things would be a lot worse than they are now. But every time she drives my car, it seems to come back with something else wrong-nothing big, just a stone chip or some curb rash on the wheels. I say "seems to" because I'm wondering if they were there before or if I'm looking for reasons to say no when she asks for the keys. Do I loosen up and learn to live with this or do I say no?

I presume you're male and that she's a real "girlfriend." Your question is equivalent to asking, "What's better, up or down?" Obviously it depends on several factors. Age. Total cost. Reliability. Total mileage. Appearance. Performance. Then, rate the same factors for the car. Add up the points. If the car wins, tell her she can't touch it anymore.
