Abandoned marina? I had no idea that species even existed.

The "recession" has hit this place hard and the subsequent cost of fuel has really curtailed power boat activity. I think disposable income has disappeared for most of them (Not that I miss them)

Wow! I must be getting old - I recognize some of those Mothball Fleet ships, and I remember when they were new!

Abandoned marina? I had no idea that species even existed.

Its sibling 'lives' on Breath Bayou (Bay St Louis, MS) - looks like it 'made it' thru Katrina, but never re-opened.. In a way, kinda sad.. but in reality, it was (previously) full of boats with too little wood & waaaay too much noise making engine..

Very nice selection of boats, heavy on canoe-sterned ones, of course. :) Your canoe yawl is particularly lovely, Mr. Canoeyawl.

Are those boats in mothballs hanging on anchors or rafted up to a quay?

D__ned autocorrect keeps changing "sterned" into "sterner."

The mothball "fleet" is anchored in a deep spot in the river. You can see the chains coming out of the hawse holes port and starboard.
Although the river is a mile or more wide there, it's only about 2 feet deep 500 yards to the south (right side of the image) of the vessels and you have to use some caution sailing by them as they insist on all traffic keeping off 500 feet. There is a mini graveyard of fishing vessels and sailboats just there, You can see bits of them at low tide and a mast or two sticking up at a drunken angle always.
The deep water ship channel is way off to the south on the other side of the sand bar.

Chart here, note "reserve fleet" in Suisun Bay

Well, the raccoons and the river otters have sure taken advantage of it, and the swallows are loving it.

Looks like you had two Drascombe Dabbers and a Lugger in that gathering.

Good boats

That is good to hear. I am in my third season of sailing a 1976 Dabber that I bought after selling my Redmond Elver. Even though it is made mostly out of that other stuff, it has enough wood to keep me busy varnishing for a few weekends each year.
