The first race of Australian V8 Supercars in the US is being held this weekend at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin.

It will be interesting, but it's still a formula nobbled by dinosaur engineering. This is the first year that its been widened beyond the traditional Ford vs GM rivalry and Mercedes-Benz and Nissan are fielding cars. Unfortunately, they are limited to 7,500 rpm to keep them competitive. The German and Japanese companies are struggling to get tractability and winning performance out of engines that are designed to make maximum power at revs 33% higher than what they are allowed.... but shhh don't talk about it.

Rather like NASCAR, where, in order to be allowed to compete, Toyota has to build a "race car" engine less sophisticated then the one they sell in their production trucks.....
