My good friend, Jim Michalak, just sent me a copy of his newly-published book "BOATBUILDING FOR BEGINNERS AND BEYOND".
It won't appeal to traditionalists, but may create new addicts in the "instant boats" category.
There are building plans for six boats included.
I just agreed to mentor a high school student's senior project. He wants to build a small power boat and the 13' QT Power Skiff looks perfect for him.

Morning Dave. I haven't had a chance to chat with you, but looking foward to Southport. And if you need some help on the school project, let me know.

Now there's a truly meaningful senior project! There ought to be more "physical" products for these requirements. I'm not belittling the intellectual component; just recognizing the "multiple intelligences" research and the need to involve students in more than internet plagarizing as a means of clearing this graduation hurdle. If any of my school's students asked me for support in such a venture, I'd be all over it in a heartbeat.
So what other designs are included in this tome? And are they all stitch-and-schmooie?

Plans in the book are: a 14' sailboat, a two-person kayak/canoe, two rowboats, and two johnboat-type motorboats.
Jim is a downsized aeronautical engineer who has been designing and building simple plywood boats for over 15 years.
