Cool! Thanks!

Just got back from dinner with my BIL, kids, FIL and beloved and settling in for the evening! All in all a pretty relaxed day.

Thank you one and all! I do really like Spinner's birthday threads and propose a toast to Aulikki who chimes in like clockwork to give each of us a brilliant lift on this board, and who celebrated her own august day just a few back: To Spindrift! It's now the 11th of May here and I'm sitting down with a nice strong morning coffee. It's raining even more today than it did yesterday, so as it's still the 10th of May on the other side of the date line for at least another 13 hours I guess I'll just have to keep celebrating!

Happy birthday, old son. Better late than never.
I think I shall play some Mussorgsky in your honor tonight.
Hope you have another fine trip around the sun...you deserve it!

Thanks Cris! I've been spoiled of late: ABC FM here has been playing renditions of Shostakovich's string quartets by both the Brodsky and Borodin Quartets.

Oh my... The 8th! What a monumental piece with that amazing DSCH signature phrase. What a composer!

Didn't you just have a birthday...oh that was last year! Doesn't time fly?
Sounds like you had a good one Dunc, well done.:)

Ah Shostakovich. One of his wartime ditties, IIRC. A lovely and heartbreaking piece Dunc.

HBTY Duncan.
I note the Australian Festival of Chamber Music is on in Townsville, 26 july - 3 August. I hope the ABC can afford to broadcast it.

happy belated birthday duncan.
how old are you now? :D

Duncan Gibbs

Too old? Not old enough?... Well and truly middle aged and going greyer by the day. Let's leave it at that! :D

That's an impressively large programme Jeff. It looks like it will be broadcast, or at least the concert components of it, as Damien Beaumont is listed as "presenter" and ABC FM is listed as a supporter. IIRC it was on air last year.

Found my old cassette recordings of Richmond Local Library vinyl copies of all the Shostakovich quartets and have just re-listened to #8 and now have the longer #9 going.

Russian music! Mmmmmmm.....
