View Full Version : Tim Evans Yacht Designer (Canadian)

He did work in Vancouver, B.C. He had a write-up on a modified St. Lawrence Yawl he designed in WB #85/117(Dec 1988) (by Joel White).

Anyone know if he is still in business?....where he can be contacted?

Internet showed nothing on him...

oooo..la..la....can you give us a little info about her? smile.gif

03-12-2002, 02:33 AM
Here are some specs on her and a drawing of how she will look :

LOA: 28 feet 1 inch
LWL: 22 feet 2 inches
Beam: 8 feet 6 inches
Draft: 4 feet 10 inches
Sail Area:356 square feet
Dist.: 5,500 pounds
Construction: Round-bottom ; cold-molded, wood-epoxy

She has a fin keel and a skeg hung rudder.

Tim did a great job on the design . I was able to build her right to plan dimensions and weight so I don't think there will be any surprises at launching time . She's a real beauty too . I never get tired of looking at her.

Your right I did get lost!! quater to 4am this morning I finally tore my eyes out of there! ugghh... but what a hangout!! now maybe "woodenboat" should do somethin like that?? all the oldies on the internet just for the reading, now wouldnt that be cool? nah then they would have trouble selling the mag right? hahaha just joking Scot!!

Keep a "hard log" of your websites...I had the same most unfortunate happin'...lots of INFO gone.. Yeah its a bummer, but then Im trying to look on the bright side here... Now all that "boat porn" has gone, I can finally consentrate and not go getting all confused again... right?

Shane, which way was your money headed before you got confuzed?Prior to getting confused??? You mean way back when??? Originally a Wharram Tiki 46, I do like those cats... then well I sort of went really over the yardarm something terrible... but Grey Seal stood out as the most likely... And mmd had also said he was going to take Elle's lines around September so there was another beauty to add to the confusion... That was until I had some time with the Schooner Etain... Now? Im done!

Now as for those Peterson Coasters, ah..there little sea ships for sure...talk about "salty".. ooooooohhhhhh yeah... they are the bees knees and thats for sure! Come on the mailman!!!

...how long to build?ohhhh probably just a few... who am I kidding??... more likely most of my lifetime :D

Oooops your asking JJoohhnn right? yep I concur!! Gotta stop hyjackin threads like this!... So how long has it taken so far mate? How long you estimate left ot go? She is a beauty, lovely lines, and that wee curved transom... see what I mean???

Wild Dingo;
I can relate to your difficulty in making a decision on which design to choose. I spent months going through design catalogs and comparing different plans and came to the conclusion that a Roberts 28 was the one for me. I went to the boat plan dealer and paid him the money. While he was getting the plans I ordered , I spotted a new design catalog sitting on the table . I picked it up to have a quick look while I was waiting and the catalog basically popped open to the page that the English Bay 28 was on. I looked. I liked very much. I bought. After all those months of toiling over which design to choose , I bought this one on an impulse....and the rest is history.
But......now is when you really get into decision making....what: building method; building material; epoxy , glue, fasteners; fibreglass cloth; brand of paint, calking, bottom paint......and the list goes on and on.
You mentioned Wharram......Last summer we had a sail on a 21 foot Wharram Tiki
catamaran .Here are a couple pictures I got from a google search : http://www.evecom.nl/multihulls/mwocc/img/Ilatiki/wad.JPG http://www.themultihull.com/wharram/images/k1.jpg http://www.wharram.com/images/tiki21_01.jpg What a great design ( I want to build one of those ). For the simplicity of design it sure was a performer ! The hulls were stitch and glue and lashed to the cross beams. There were no daggerboards or fold down rudders to mess with ( the rudders were just lashed on to the back of the hulls and very effective ). I think this would be a great first or second or third time boat building project .
As for how long I have been working on this one....a few years off and on....If I can just decide what kind of auxiliary power to usa on her ( decisions...LOL ) I hope to have her in the water next year .

Ahoy! Wild Shane, Wild Dingo, whatever (is a Dingo a wild Aussie dog?)

At the top of this thread I mentioned "St. Lawrence Yawl...Wb Mag #85 pg 117 , 1985AD"
Now that WHOLE profile..for one it is old world CLASSIC...PLUMB BOW...SWAYBACK TRANSOM...GAFF RIG..BOW SPRIT...SWEET SHEAR...A GOOD SAILOR there's nothing
more pleasing to my eye..nothing that tops that...and I have been lookin' at WB Mag from day one, issue one..after 30 years I finally made up my mind..I know what I want... as soon as I find the right bank and a fast car..off to a builder... smile.gif smile.gif

What's the average cost to build a wood boat today?....$1500, $2000 per foot?.. in Australia
