So are the rumors true? Will there be some sort of big celebration next year? I've wanted to bring Talisman up to Brooklin for years, could this be the time?

Does anyone know the exact date of the first publication?

It's still in the rumor mill stage, Steven. Vague mutters and the like.

To yours, Basil: Pick a day in August 1974. I'll see if I can get a precise one (date) for you.

Once and if we make headway, we will post it here on the Forum first.

Thanks for caring, Carl

A real milestone! I guess it paid off that I sent in my subscription as a 14 yr old kid. (I know things were tight, with Jon's tree phone and all. Without my subscrition you might not have made it) :d :d :d :d

I came aboard @ # 35. Managed to get the lot.
Where the hell has 40 years gone? My daughter turns 30 today, where has that gone?

I got one of those nice letters, as I guess did everyone on John Gardner's mailing list, offering a lifetime subscription for $100. I didn't think the rag would last but I still would have gone for it except hand long-lining ling cod from the dory I'd build from John's book and trading them in the cash free world of an Oregon timber recession did not leave me with a hundred dollars to put a hand on. Always regretted the loss of that deal.

Side light, while they were both supportive they were both frugal, so Mr. George Kelley told me that he and Capt Pete flipped a coin for which one would spring the hundred. They shared from there.

So, I've got a good nearly complete collection but all from the news stand. One day I'll get over kicking myself about not having the hundred and just do a subscription. Think how much 'extra' I've paid over the years for that silly attitude problem of mine.

I feel the same way about passing up on that lifetime offer from back then. I'm hoping www.offcenterharbor.com will have as long and interesting a run as WB, so I jumped on their lifetime membership offer.

Such an auspicious occasion might tempt me to bring Sjogin to Brooklin. By the time Summer 2014 rolls around she should be ready for a road trip.

Imagine sailing as slow as we could amongst the assembled fleet, searching for a loose bottle of rum.

Could someone photoshop this in front of the WoodenBoat waterfront?

Russ,

Search the Register of Woodenboats for Lily. It's the Brays newest acquisition, a lapstrake LFH design #43, the original Prudence, pp.263+ in Sensible Cruising Designs. She'd be something to see sailing in tandem with Sjogin. Very similar length and rig.

Dave,

I think the Prudence would out sail Sjogin in anything other than a good breeze with the wind a few points free. In any event it would be a joy to sail with her.

The thought of bringing Sjogin north in 2014 is becoming increasingly intriguing. We could do a stop in Mystic for the WBS and then off to the Reach.

Road trip!

Oh, ho! look at this: http://www.woodenboat.com/woodenboat-magazine%E2%80%99s-40th-anniversary

Looks like there will be some sort of celebration in Brooklin, after all. How cool is that? Now to start working on my longtime dream of Sailing Talisman to Brooklin. I've wanted to sail in and stay at Woodenboat ever since I visited Norm and Phylis there on Prairie Islander.
