The Scow Schooner project near Houston is hosting their fourth annual small craft festival on Saturday October 23. They are also forming a Lone Star Chapter of the Traditional Small Craft Assn. For details see http://www.scowschooner.org/

Here are some pics. Not a very large event, but some nice boats and the people were friendly.

Another flat bottom skiff. Interesting combination of old and new. Cross planked bottom, with plywood sides.

The skiff, a nice looking kayak, and my pirogue.

A very nice traditional-built skiff, described as a stretched John Gardner design. Cypress planking for the sides and bottom, yellow pine keelson and frames, and elm for the stem and transom cleat. First time in the water. I was asked to help row it back to the dock, about two miles downriver. Picked a good time to row, bucking a good headwind, near whitecaps on the water, and in the middle of a downpour. I'd say it got a good christening.
