I have a three person "Canadian" canoe(built 1921 by Salters of Oxford)Cedar strips clenched copper nails etc, a lovely object.
I now live nowhere near water in London(UK)in a flat so small that swinging a cat is a just a fantasy, and get my fun by delivering other peoples boats all over the place.

I want to send the canoe to my nephew and his kids in Vermont where they have a pond of just the right size, and will I hope have the sort of fun in it that I had as a sprog on the river.

The only quotes I have had from shipping companies are several thousand dollars.
There's got to be a better way.
Can anyone help??

Sell your canoe and send them the money to buy another in the U.S. Perhaps not the same boat, but the money sure won't cost much to send and won't get damaged in transit!

The Wooden Canoe Historical Association, WCHA.org, has a transport registry where members make arrangements to move boats. A trans-atlantic effort wouldn't be out of the question. Adding a small boat to a household move wouldn't be a big deal.

As always, pictures would help.

Thanks for the link to WCHA, I'll givethem a try.
Whilst not quite an antique, this little boat offered freedom and adventure to my sister and I when young so has great sentimental value. She died earlier this year. So I would like her children and grandchildren to have it in a place where they can use it.
