Most love songs are "torch" songs, or love gone wrong songs.

Love gone right songs are a bit harder to think of.

Strangers in the Night

Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime

Loving You

My Girl

Love me Tender

Depends on your definition of a love gone right :)

Greg Brown's "The Cheapest Kind"

We travelled Kansas and Missouri spreading the good news

A preachers family in our pressed clothes and worn out polished shoes

Momma fixed us soup beans and served them up by candlelight

She tucked us in at night

Oh she worried through many a sleepless night

Dad and me would stop by the store when the day was done

Standin at the counter he said "I forgot to get the peaches, son."

"What kind should I get?" I said to him there where he stood in line

And he answered just like I knew he would "Go and get the cheapest kind"

(chorus)

But the love, the love, the love

It was not the cheapest kind

It was rich as, rich as, rich as, rich as, rich as

Any you could ever find

I see the ghost of my grandfather from time to time

In some big city amongst the people all dressed so fine

He usually has a paper bag clutched real tight

His work clothes are dirty

He don't look at nobody in the eye

Oh he was little, he was wirey, and he was lots of fun

He was rocky as Ozark dirt that he come from

And they was raisin' seven children on a little farm

In not the best of times

The few things that they got from the store

Was always jus' the cheapest kind

(repeat chorus)

Fancy houses with wealthy poeple I don' understand

I always wish I could live holdin' on to my grandpa's hand

So he could lead me down that gravel road somewhere

To that little house where there's just enough supper

For whosever there

My people's hands and faces they are so dear to me

All I have to do is close my eyes and I see `em all so near to me

I have to cry I have to laugh

When I think of all the things that have drawn those lines

So many years of makin' do with the cheapest kind

(repeat chorus twice)

"She loves you"? Four blokes from Liverpool, some time in the early Sixties?

Sally Rogers' song about her grandmother is Lovely Agnes is pretty good

LOVELY AGNES
(Sally Rogers c. 1980)
1. and Chorus:
Oh Agnes, won't you go with me? We'll be married in style
And we'll cross Lake Michigan, so blue and so wide,
We'll cross over Lake Michigan, 'til we come to the shore,
And our orchards will blossom for our babies as they're born.

2. Oh yes, love I will go with you, leave Wisconsin behind
Though my parents think little of my life on a farm,
For to leave the gay city life, and be buried on a farm,
But I'll watch the orchards bloom in spring,
Spend the winter's warm in your arms.

3. Three children she gave to him, Curtis, Addie and Dee
And their fourth child little Gussie came, ten years after these.
And she raised them with loving hand and with firmness of mind
And she raised them through troubled times, Agnes strong
willed and kind.

4. Now the years have gone and past, like the fruit on the trees,
And your children have children with babes on their knees
And they all join in the summertime, by the crystal lake shore,
To greet lovely Agnes, now 12 years and four-score.

Thanks, I enjoyed that. Familiar with the aria, but not Barbara Bonney. But a good interpretation.

Opera. The only thing harder to learn to like, but more rewarding when you do, than scotch.

Again... depending upon your definition:

Triad, Jefferson Airplane --

You want to know how it will be
Me and him OR you and me
You both stand there your long hair flowing
Eyes alive your mind still growing
Saying to me--"What can we do now that we both love you",
I love you two-- I don't really see
Why can't we go on as three
You are afraid--embarrassed too
No one has ever said such a thing to you
Your mother's ghost stands at your shoulder
Face like ice--a little bit colder
Saying to you--"you can not do that, it breaks
All the rules you learned in school"
I don't really see
Why can't we go on as three
We love each other--it's plain to see
There's just one answer that comes to me
--Sister--lovers--water brothers
And in time--maybe others
So you see--what we can do--is to try something new--
If you're crazy too--
I don't really see
Why can't we go on as three.

Beautiful by Gordon Lightfoot

At times I just don't know
How you could be anything but beautiful
I think that I was made for you
And you were made for me

And I know that I won't ever change
We've been friends through rain or shine
For such a long, long time

Laughing eyes and smiling face
It seems so lucky just to have the right
Of telling you with all my might
You're beautiful tonight

And I know that you won't ever stray
Cause you've been that way from day to day
For such a long, long time

And when you hold me tight
How could life be anything but beautiful
I think that I was made for you
And you were made for me

And I know that I won't ever change
We've been friends through rain or shine
For such a long, long time

Well, I must say it means so much to me
To be the one who's telling you
I'm telling you, that you're beautiful.

The entry of the piano at about 0:52 is one of the finest moments in the history of love songs.

Good ole roy Clark. He did another song I really love: "Right or Left at Oak Street" Doesn't quite fit this thread, but I really like it.

My last post took me to this - though not exactly a love gone right song - though one could argue that I guess - this is a boat forum

...Love the One You're With...

This song is the punchline in probably the best scene of the (generally crummy) movie Prometheus, when the ship's captain goads Charlize Theron into proving she's not a robot...
