Katherine and I have made none yet.

What will you do?

Get smashed with a bunch of friends, then at midnight, we'll all go out and pass the shotgun around, firing into the sky.

Usually, the neighbour across the street throws a party ... convenient, 'cause there's no need to drive or get a cab. I end up on the piano, usually.

This year, dunno - they're gonna pass. It would be fun to bring people to our house instead, if I had a notion of how to get them to leave when Herself's uber-introvert kicks in. :D

We'll have an open house, as usual. It is our anniversary.
I'll probably make snacks, Christine will make mini-quiches.

my 'Baby Boomers Music Trivia' game... it was a big hit. Sounds like fun. How's that go?

Toronto? Is a big night out? Well... I guess it beats the shotgun thing.

Food, beer, family and friends (they overlap. The family and friends, not the family and food) then lighting one of those magnesium star thingies and shouting BOOM in mockery of fireworks.

Toronto? Is a big night out? A three day holiday in a decent sized foreign and multicultural city with good food, music, and architecture? I mean, yeah its not Phoenix, but it sure beats Hell for a little culture. . .

Syed - she was practicing the art of the possible.

We have passed on all New Years events. My sweetie has already had her fill of parties, and I'm still a little bit in recovery mode. Plus, the next morning is our annual Coots BoatBurning. Allowing all the worn-out, damaged, or misbegotten boats to leave this earthly realm - hopefully to be reincarnated in a new and better form!

There are typically drinkable liquids, flammable liquids, and firearms involved... better if I'm fresh as possible.:arg

My little town has a bonfire and fireworks display down at the lake. We went last year and enjoyed it. Big crowd of happy people trying to stay warm by that bonfire. During the day, some folks will play in the annual ice-golf game. They play golf on the frozen, snow-covered lake. "Greens" are small cleared areas of ice and the "cup" is simply a hole cut in the ice. Some people will do anything to play golf!

Sail over to Nevis on a 65'0" catamaran "Ire Lime" with open bar and snacks.

Anchor off Four Seasons, party and have a grandstand view of their midnight fireworks display and then sail back in the wee hours of the morning.

BBQ and beers with friends and immediate family at a camp ground by a lake.

It would be nice to add 'round a fire' to that, but I suspect there'll be a total fire ban on what with it being a regional park.

Just a little clarification needed here--when you say "you end up on the piano"...?

There are many ways to end up on a piano--I've experienced most of them. Sometimes I even play the darned thang...:D

Godspeed to you, my Canuckistani hombre!

Jeff CImages of the Fabulous Baker Boys coming to mind? Michele Pfeiffer doesn't come to our parties. :D

And only once did I essentially end up under the piano. I have evil memories of the resulting hangover ... and a rekindled respect for single malt. I guess I shoulda noticed when I stopped noticing my glass getting refilled ... but I was too busy playing the music.

My one and only hangover could be be described perfectly by a series of four chromatically descending 13th chords...it was kind of a Wiley Coyote riff on walking over an open manhole cover.

Good times...

The last few years we, along with several other couples, have rented the penthouse suites on top of a small hotel in Birch Bay. It's right across the street from the beach with a great view. We play games, mix cocktails, and take turns cooking. Kind of a three day low key party. We are mostly geezer qualified so its easy to opt out of activities and nap in our room if the need arises. Some of our group take part in the Polar Bear swim. I usually schedule a nap during that.

Well, in 2008 it was this. I'm pretty sure 'they' are no longer looking for us.

A "polar bear swim", in the lower 48?! That's... cute, I guess, but not the most apt description...

First night in Boston, buy a button that gets you into everything for $20ish. I go with my daughter, start with a parade, then improve comedy, a poetry slam, some kind of music, ice sculptures and fireworks. If you live in the Boston area its a great way to celebrate.
