...at Saint Michael's October 2-3. Anybody going? I have the weekend free and thought it would be fun to take Meander down. Where to stay if I am solo? Rick

The best bet would be to register for the festival and camp on the museum grounds with the rest of us. Most will arrive on Friday or even Thursday. The museum was quoting a cutoff of 9/24, but I think that you could still register on site. Best bet would be to call or email the museum (either John Ford or Robin Nucomb).

Please take plenty of pictures, will not be able to make it this year. Always exciting to see what new boats show up as well as all the regulars.
Cheers

My picture taking has been pretty poor over the last several years. Most times the camera goes into the bag when I pack and is then forgotten until I unpack! In addition to John Welsford, it looks like Hurricane Jeanne could also be in the area. Unless the place is under water, I will be there at least for the day Saturday.

Where's a good place to stay that is nearby and not too pricey?

The Best Western in St. Michaels is the only place within at least 10 miles that's less than $100/night. I just checked and they're full.
If you can't find something in Easton, you're looking at close to an hour's drive, from the Queen Anne's county (Kent Narrows, Grasonville, Centreville, etc.) or Denton.
There's a Comfort Inn, Days Inn, Econolodge, or a Holiday Inn Express in Easton. Another Best Western in Denton. Sleep Inn and Holly's in Grasonville, etc. Can't vouch for any of them.
For addresses and phone numbers in Talbot County: www.tourtalbot.org (http://www.tourtalbot.org)
Similar info for Queen Anne's:

The Cambridge area is also a possibility, but it's south of St. Mike's and doesn't make sense unless you're coming from that direction.

I think the Best Western in Saint Michaels is already sold out for that weekend. You might try one of the chains in Easton. I don't know what your definition of pricey is, but I suspect that the B&Bs in Saint Michaels will fall into it.

Edited to add Steve, you beat me to it!

I sent in my registration today so I am comitted. I have to come solo as the rest of the clan is bespoke, so camping it will be, come what may. What do most folks do for meals? Rick

For meals:
Supper Friday is the seafood sampler, but I will be bringing 2 pounds of hotdogs, both for myself and for anybody else who may be interested. My way of giving back to the group. Breakfast on both Saturday and Sunday is coffee and donuts in the auditorium. They also have tea, hot chocolate, muffins and fruit. Supper Saturday is the not quite banquet with spaghetti or lasagna, chicken crab soup, salad etc. That leaves only lunches. On Friday I usually go over to Poppies with a couple of the guys I haven't seen for a year, on Saturday I usually but from the group that sells hot dogs there, and I don't recall what I did on Sunday last year, but it could have been a return to Poppies.

I hope to be arriving Friday evening with my Chebacco for it's official first launch. We did have a trial run in a local pond, but that was les than spectacular. Look for a blue hulled Chebacco yawl & say hello.

Several years ago I made a trip to St.Michaels and stayed in Salisbury. I don't really remember how far away it was, but it was probably something like an hour.
I recommend the museum in St.Michaels to all of my friends, not just for the wooden boat stuff, which most of my friends could care less about, but for the duck and waterfowl exhibits. First rate stuff. I learned a great deal about waterfowl migrations, the history of waterfowl hunting in the Bay area, etc. All of that and Comet #1. Made a side trip to Annapolis and toured the Visitor's Center and the grounds at the USNA. Stopped at the Biltmore House in Asheville on the way home. That was a pretty cool trip.
I hope that you guys have great weather and lot's of boats. Best of luck.

This was a wonderful messabout. The 22nd running and my first, but definitely not my last. Here are some photos. I took a bunch so will post them on separate posts since there is an 8 pic limit per post. Rick

A lovely St. Lawrence River Skiff built glued-lap with sapele and finished bright. I think this one won the men's rowing race but I was too far back in the pack to be sure.

A Harry Bryan "Handy Billy" powered with a well insulated 15hp 4 stroke OB. ALMOST as quiet as my electric launch.

Rower's eye view of a traditionally built carvel planked 12' whitehall. I rowed this on in the race and finished 3rd from the last. It was the shortest waterline boat in the race though. tongue.gif This boat was built by the Maine Maritime Museum and the owner WON the boat in the museum raffle.
More to come.....

Way off the subject!
I have uploaded pictures of my '48 Hinckley and want to post them. I don't seem to be able to do so. Used Myimages etc. Where am I going wrong? How do I transfer them to the forum?
