Fishing boat Whitstable Kent.

I'm guessing there's some odd regulation that creates a boat this shape. . .

Floating kinda high, isn't it, Slim?

If it didn't have that hideous structure on deck, it could be a very pretty boat..... But what does this have to do with your physiological make-up, Slim?..... :D

Probably right. A length restriction. I'm guessing the overhang on the stern doesn't count?

"8 KNOTS"... Kind of a strange thing to have on a buoy, unless he stole it from the waterway police types. ;)

Yep,
Length limited by regs, go longer and there are a different set of regulations to comply with. No restriction on beam or power.
Although she was pictured in Faversham, she is registered in Brixham, and may be Dutch built. I have seen less elegant shapes than that one.

I think that first boat is rather cute. But - I'm partial to workboats... and think short and fate are the bee's knees.

In Bristol Bay, gillnetters are restricted to 32 feet. That's why the bow looks like that.

There's one on my river here with that same bow - on which a witty owner has painted a "splatted" Disney character.
