Mari-Cha IV, the 140-foot schooner owned by the duty-free shopping magnate Robert Miller, eclipsed the 1905 record of the three-masted schooner Atlantic by 2 days 12 hours 5 minutes and 56 seconds, doing so in 9 days, 15 hours, 55 minutes and 23 seconds. . .

I like that boat but would certainly hate working with those plastic sails - what an ugly reef!

There's an old photo somewhere of Equation, Britton Chance's 68' swing keel IOR racer, under chute with the front 15' of her bow jutting out of the back of a wave, like meat cleaver. Reminds me of this shot, way cool.

Deceptive boat. Once I saw that both masts were same height and sails same size, I had to agree she's better called a schooner albeit with a main mast stepped rather farthere aft than normal.

Now converting her to single-handing without power winches would be a challenge.

Mental Freudian Slip after reading the thread title.

I read it as "A Fat Schooner".

Cold and wet for nine days...24 hours a day? Not for me.

but, but... going fast is the be-all and end-all of living, ain't it?

Equal mast heights = Schooner. Now if you know the after mast is 1" shorter, you'd be correct.....

Gee, I've never seen a schooner with the main mast aft of the helm. I think she's a yawketooner.

I think she's a yawketooner.what if we just call her a fast downwind sled?

It better be fast. That's not a boat I'd choose to spend much time down below in. Prolly why all hands were on deck with nothing going on in the first pic.

Well, no mahogony paneling with beveled glass on the liquor locker doors.
