View Full Version : SouthEast Boat Builders & Beer Drinkers III
Okay, due to undoe pressure from the peanut gallery ;) , it is time to start thinking about the third annual get together of the SouthEast Boat Builders & Beer Drinkers. We will start with ideas on locations and dates and work the details out from there.
My first choice this year would some lake near Marrieta, GA since JB has that new 'toon. I guess this year though we will not have the services of Mr. Moon. :(

A couple of choices, then. There are a couple Army Corps campgrounds on my lake you could choose from:
Victoria (http://www.reserveamerica.com/jsp/commonpage.jsp?goto=/nrrs/ga/vict/newindex.html)
Sweetwater (http://www.reserveamerica.com/jsp/commonpage.jsp?goto=/nrrs/ga/swee/newindex.html)
Payne (http://www.reserveamerica.com/jsp/commonpage.jsp?goto=/nrrs/ga/payn/newindex.html)
Macedonia
For messing about in boats, Sweetwater is probably the best choice.
Click here (http://allatoona.sam.usace.army.mil/Allatoona/Lakemap.htm) for a map of the lake. I keep my boat at #21 on the map. Sweetwater is #10.
The only difficulty with any of these is that they tend to fill up fast. So we'd need to get on board with reservations soon.

How about the weekend of May 15-16? Sweetwater CG, near Canton, GA.
John I'll be in Miss. that weekend. That is the middle weekend for Annual Training.

Then what do you propose?
John, looking at my schedule it may be best if we did this after I get back from annual training. I get back on May 22. There are a couple of mandatory cheerleading camps the kid has to go to, but we don't know the dates as of yet.

PaulSweetwater beer sells a lot better than Sweatwater. :D
Seriously... No I have not, but I'd like to someday. smile.gif I'm married with young children, so the only time I get to go to fun things where adult beverages are made and served is when I'm traveling on business! ;)

You have got to go,
Basically you pay $3 and you stand in the parking lot with a lot unreformed hippies, and hot young college chicks and you drink as much beer as you want from 4:00 pm until dark.
What's not to love about that.
Paul
ps that should be sweetwater not sweatwater by the way.

My open weekends in June are 5-6 and 26-27.
We need to get something nailed down, 'cuz we'll need to get on the stick and reserve sites soon before they are all gone.
John, I don't know about the cheerleading camps and it may be a while. I'm open both of those weekends so far, so lets try for the 5th 6th weekend in June and see what the others say.

It's a long shot, but we've got to make another wood-buying run to North Alabama last of May/first of June.
So you all agree on something, and I'll try to talk Capt'n Grouchy Pants into stopping by.

Does that date sound fine?

I can't make it in June, though I'd like to.
Chad, weren't you the motorcyclist who was threatened with a gun by another driver a while ago? (What happened with that, btw?)
If so, get the driver's picture, paste it to the bag of sawdust and everyone at the SEBB&BD III can blaze/hack away with all manner of weaponry. :D :D
That'll show solidarity among the SE US WBF members!

No, that wasn't me. All I'm allowed to do these days is dream about motorcycles. :(

I don't know if I can come yet or not, but if I can, I'll make the beans if SOMEBODY makes the shrimp and grits for breakfast. Hmmmmm, I wonder WHO could do that?

Shrimp and grits sounds good to me.
Hey Peter, when did you move?
John, since you know the lake why don't you pick out the campsite and we will go from there.

I'd like to make it, but can't commit just yet.
I'm still awaiting a sail, and in the midst of varnishing the coaming before moving on to the spars and finally the rigging and trailer.
I've got two weeks off in early May that might allow me to finish, God willin' & the creek don't rise. If so, I hope to at least stop by for the afternoon.

There is no requirement for bringing a boat. There is enough of swap offs to go around, that no one goes without getting wet. There is one guildline that is usually adhered to in community conversation and it the same that applies to the People and Places section also. smile.gif
John are you out there?

Okay, I'm planning for 5 and 6 Jun. Hopefully we can get some spots reserved. How many are still interested?

I swore I was gonna come down this year after all the fun I saw you had last year. Do you allow Southern Canadians at this shindig? :D If so, Dawn and I will have to swing through Memphis and pick up Mike and Sue on the way. ;)

Here's what I know: there appears to be good availability of campsites at Sweetwater CG on the reserveamerica site four June 4-5-6. I just don't know what sites are the good ones, if you know what I mean. I'm planning to get over there before this weekend and to check it out. There are plenty of hotels about 12 miles away off of I-75 at GA Highway 20 (exit 290). Search for hotels in Cartersville, GA. There are also a couple of hotels a little closer in Canton, GA.
I'm going to look at campsites and reserve one for me once I know where I want to be. I'll post it here when I do it. I'd strongly suggest that if you want to come that you also reserve a site in advance. There are some sites on first come basis for those who can't commit.
Anyone is welcome, even Canadians or wanna-be's.
This isn't in stone yet, but I'm getting close to finalizing everything on my end. Another day, please.

Well, it looks like Karen and I will be missing this trip. Seems that this is the weekend that we will be moving my youngest to NC. I'm sure that Peter can stand in for me with the shrimp and grits though.
Hate to hear that Charles. I was looking forward to thanking you in person for that old bag.
