Some 17 years ago I built Gifford Jackson's Marisol skiff. I was wondering if any one knows if Mr. Jackson has a web site or if there is an e-mail address that he could be reached at?

The 'Marisol' Skiff is a very attractive little boat, 12'-6" long and with a 5' beam, and una-rigged with a gunter lug. The top of the daggerboard trunk is the rowing thwart. There's an article here (http://www.smallboatforum.com/PDFfiles/LireStory.pdf) on one being built.

Jackson wrote about his then-new design in WoodenBoat #12 (1976,) and WoodenBoat later published the designer's book on the boat, with comprehensive sketches and all plans (at a reduced scale) in 2005. The book's blurb says to contact WoodenBoat for further information, and I daresay they could still put people in touch with the designer. Their phone number is 207-359-4651. (Note that, assuming Jackson is still alive, he would now be in his late eighties.)

We'll shortly be listing one of these skiffs for sale here, and the owner has provided some photos of her for the listing. Here are some line drawings and a picture to give you an idea of what she looks like --

She has unusual and most attractive mast partners, and the forestay and shrouds are rigged with deadeyes which, together with belaying pins for the halyards etc, give her a nice jaunty air --

He's still listed in the phone book and I'd not heard any news about him so expect that he's still around. As far as I know he only ever offered plans for the Marisol dinghy, and the plans are a wonderful example of old fashioned drafting skills, possibly the most detailed and comprehensive plans and building guide you've ever seen, they are worth the purchase price just to admire.

No website and his email, if he has one, is private. I could though give you a postal address if you contact me off forum.

Thanks for that, John. I was hoping you might chime in with local knowledge. I have an address and phone number from your local directory, but whether they're correct or not I have no idea.

I suppose it remains to be seen whether WFK is still interested a decade after his original enquiry....

You're absolutely right about Jackson's drawings though. Aren't they works of art? Good enough for framing. Here are those beautiful mast partners as an example --
