Yongda Huang Harris, a US citizen, had arrived from Japan and was due to board a flight to Boston when he was stopped.
Border officials said a number of items were found including knives, handcuffs, body bags and a smoke bomb.

In this country you can't carry a nail file onboard.

Or a childs plastic toy golf club. Friends 4 year old had this dangerous weapon confiscated by some goon at the airport.

Unless I read it wrong, most of that stuff was in his checked baggage.
Maybe the vest wouldn't fit in the suitcase...

Does any of this make you feel safer?

Along with the flame resistant trousers, trauma plate and knee pads.
This bloke was up to no good. Also in his luggage were the following, hatchet, a collapsible baton, a bio-hazard suit, a gas mask, leg irons and lead-filled truncheons.
I love this bit.

"He was detained by customers border protection because he was wearing a full ballistic vest with a trauma plate and knee pads and to them that was unusual," Commander Blake Chow of the Los Angeles police department told ABC.

No s**t Sherlock!:)

A few weeks ago Charles age ten had two Nerf Guns (plastic toys) confiscated from his checked baggage because such things are not allowed into Dubai at all, not even in checked baggage in transit.

Last Monday morning Martin Schulz had 3 kg of white lead paste confiscated at Stansted because it was "more than 100 mg of a liquid".

Knee jerk reactions that accomplish nothing. Bin Ladan's laughing in his water grave.

In February,my daughter had a jar(300ml,maybe) of Ovomaltine, that she'd brought from Switzerland, confiscated in Amsterdam.
She was devastated because you can't get it here, and outraged that the rather pear-shaped customs officer wouldn't let her and friends eat it right there on the spot.
She assumes that he kept it for himself.
Any mention of the event still makes her ball up her skinny little fists.

They wouldn't let him aboard while he was wearing that outfit.
