I was worried that he was actually going to melt down at the Conservative's/ Fox's hypocrisy last night. I've rarely seen him that acerbic. Need we worry for his mental health?

Oh yeah, the show closer, Craig T. Nelson's sound byte... it said it all.

Yes, it was a perfect note to end on. "I was on food stamps and welfare. No one helped me."

What I liked about the coverage was how he expanded the "public dole" to include subsidies for oil companies and bailing out Wall Street, etc.

All of this has been missed by the real news.

Since corporations are people, you'd think Mr. Romney would hesitate to stomp on his base. ;-)

I think that very last comment about how no one helped me, although I was on food stamps and welfare, shows that most people who are included in what Romney says believe he's talking about someone else. Two people can each get the same thing and they can each think the other is ripping off the system.

It's different when it's "me"

What an unbelievable episode! I can't believe that I don't watch it more often. . .

Jon stewart, IMO, does the best interviews on tv. His show also manages, among the humor, to put things into proper perspective. He's the one who tore "Crossfire" a 'new one', and made Betsy Mccaughey (the death panel lady) look like the idiot she is, and through Jim Cramer's own words showed him to be a great hypocrite.

Paul, I'm going to take you at your word and that you are being genuine, the ellipse at the end of your sentence could make it go either way and in that spirit I will offer;

It really is amazing how those Northeastern liberal elite media types can really get to the essence of the matter at hand, of course 50% of the country and perhaps 30% of the bilge will dismiss the show's take on current events as the rantings of the propaganda wing of the "Kenyan Muslim Nazi Communist Socialist Wealth Re-Distribution Party."

Oh well, I guess you can't make everyone happy, personally I thought JS nailed it.

I don't watch very much television; I wish I could bring myself to watch even less. Given that, I'm not gonna waste much time on political television. . .

^ Agreed on the TV thing, but if one tapes the show on a daily basis and just watches the first two segments, fast forwarding through the commercials, in a matter of perhaps 12 minutes in total you can get a pretty good and fairly concise take on the days top stories with a fair amount of the hypocrisy exposed for what it is.

Lets not forget he has taken Madow and Olberman and the liberal media to task when they get overzealous too. He's not just chasing after the Conservatives. It's just that they offer so much more fodder for his cannons.

I think Romney's dismissive attitude and 'writing off' of potential constituents reflects, in a pitch perfect fashion, the attitude private equity principals and some investors have toward fired employees (and their abandoned pensions and health benefits) of the companies they declare bankruptcy on and walk away from.

They simply don't signify as human beings to the PE guys. Everything is just money and transactions.

An alternate view of the week: Let’s see, an Obama supporter releases a months old tape ofthe governor describing, perhaps not as delicately as he should, one of thefundamental problems we have as a nation- a problem in which many thoughtful people believethe President, through unlawful actions, has exacerbated….. meanwhile 1) TheMideast is imploding because of the President’s decision to retreat from theworld. His enemies see weakness are trying to exploit it while his spokespeople mislead the publicabout the true character of events and he refuses to address the issue becausethe FBI is investigating the events in the Mideast and 2) His justice department is slammed fortheir handling of the events of fast and furious while 3)His spokesman is incontortions trying to spin away the President’s comment about his goal to “redistributewealth” and 4) The global currency markets gyrate in response to the Fed’srecent foray into trying to insure the economy continues to tread water throughmid November- only progress with regard to unemployment is that more people aresimply opting out of looking for work (Perhaps related to the issues Mr. Romneywas addressing) and 5) Defense contractors provide layoff notices in thethousands as they are required by law to do because of the President’s total unwillingness to provide leadership to forge solutionsto our budget (something he, as required by law, has never bothered submitting)and 6) we are reminded of the erosion ofthe rule of law with regard to GM in appropriating value from the legitimatebondholders (possibly our pension funds) and redistributing to the President’sparty’s union supporters- another item indirectly in the news because of thetremendous loss the government is now carrying on its books when it unlawfullyinserted itself into the bankruptcy thus preventing the company from fully addressing its cost structure problems whichis the customary result of the bankruptcy process and 7) finally, we arereminded that maybe the only person related to the current administration whohas shown any progress up the learning curve is Rahm Emanuel who now has firsthandexperience that the Chicago Teachers Unions, mainstay of support for thisadministration, couldn’t care less about kids.

Yes, at the urging of the firstposter I watched the JS clips. Entertaining as they are, especially to liberalpartisans and of course JS has put his money where his mouth is, I actuallyassumed I might see something amusingand thoughtful relative to the central issues of the day. I didn’t. I just sawa typical partisan rant reminding me of the week the President had.
And by the way, the tax issues raisedby JS are interesting and deserves serious discussion. I would love to see the manycorporate tax breaks eliminated- I don’tremember The President or his party making any effort to do so. In fact I rememberthe president giving enormous amounts of money away to those with close ties tothe administration. So JS is just following the Democraticplaybook which many here in the bilge have adopted- demonize big business (withthe exception of Hollywood) even though the owners are your pension funds.

Just saying ;) Watch a little GOOD TV every one in a while LOL Come on dude, I'm pretty well informed, through many hours of National Pinko Radio and reading The Economist (hardly a RWW publication) each week at the least. What do I get from pretty much every John Stewart video that's ever been posted here? A bunch of overblown comedic outrage at silly stuff replayed from Fox news. I get that from Norm anyways. . .:D

Actually Paul - he does go after lefty journalists fairly often. He's far more even handed than many think. Willin is right though, ya gotta admit that the right does offer a lot of opportunities these days.

Willin is right though, ya gotta admit that the right does offer a lot of opportunities these days.Oh I agree. We have the 'progressives' which are generally decent philosophically but quite inept politically (witness Obama) and we have the bat**** crazy Republican fear and hate mongers. Like Peter Sibley says, you have to laugh to keep from crying. . .

You're actually gonna put that one all on Obama? You are joking I hope. That one belongs squarely on the House - which has a Rep. majority. A majority that's #1 priority (by their own admission) is to make Obama a one term president - rather than do what they were elected to do.
