Probably the easiest way for Firefox users to work around the problem is to switch your editor into source mode. You can do this by clicking on the first button in either the quick reply or full page editor.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-fr_9povM9jE/UFkZBCbFKsI/AAAAAAAAAe8/6xlP-vEDL-s/s800/screencap1.jpg

If you really like having the WYSIWYG editor you can always type in the BBcode for an image which is this ----> place your image URL here the BBcode for video works the same way, just change the img to video.

The design is Albert Strange's Wenda. There have been a couple built since mine I think. Dick Wynne (a forum member) built one a few years back.
The cabin is sitting room only... My concession to that was to make a large enough hatch to stand up and walk around in the cabin. It's mostly always sunny here.
There is ample room under the floorboards for supplies. If anyone is seriously considering building this boat, Pm me - I'll take them sailing.

What are the approximate dimensions ... as in, how many people can comfortable sit out there? Or better ... how many can you daysail, how many people can you comfortably cruise. I'm guessing daysail four, cruise 2.5?

Sally's cockpit is small - two is perfect, I have sailed with three quite a few times but only for an afternoon.
I have had a half a dozen in the cockpit for cocktails after dinner, a small butane stove on the sole, boiling water with a pot of hot sake... everyones feet toasty warm, telling lies well into the evening - perfect.
My wife and I (and Betty the dog, that would be 2-1/2) have sailed for a week or so without needing provisions, but rest stops at the beach are good and fun. I love cruising alongshore and if I spy an obviously unattended dock, I'm liable to just tie up for the night if I think I can get away with it. The bow is cut away enough so that we can pull up on the beach and step off. Betty had very gentle manners and seemed to know enough not to drag her nails through the varnish or canvas even when I lifted her up onto the deck from the beach (bless her heart - RIP)

But ok with Internet Explorer!!!!!!!

I tried to post in my thread (in Building/Repair) more that one pic and it was impossible.

Maybe Firefox has a bug somewhere and that's why....

I don't think that's true. In other browsers (& older Firefox), using the button works just fine. If you use photobucket, simply choose the "Copy IMG" option & paste that text into your post. It'll look something like "[ img]www.photobucket.com/yourfolder/image.jpg[ /img]" after pasting it (press CTRL + V) - but it will display once you click the Post button.

Storing images on the WB server (instead of linking to an outside site) would mean 1) huge cost for server/disk storage (over a few years it could easily run $50,000 - as server hard disks are much more expensive than what we might buy for our own PC's) & 2) they would bear responsibility/liability for anything inappropriate that was uploaded. It'd most likely mean a full time forum person - which would mean higher prices for the magazine or having to charge for the forum.

Forum administration selects a package provided by a company after due consideration of all the pluses and minuses... just like a boat. And just like a boat... some people don't like some of the features and wouldn't buy the same boat while others either like them or tolerate them for the features that they like. The issue here is almost entirely his Firefox... It has been cranky and fussy for me too... for probably a couple of years now through various updates and version changes. Right now it likes to lock up on me for up to a minute at a time. Usually closing the browser and reopening it does the trick. If not then I clear the cookies as described above and that does it.

The Forum admin is using the latest version of vBulletin, version 4.2.0. The help forums suggest that photo posting will work more reliably for FF users if Source Code is used instead of WYSIWYG or C&P. I gave it a try and it seems to work. See post 33 above by Old Dryfoot for more info.

CTRL and V. The keys date back to the first mainstream word processor on a PC - Wordstar. CTRL and C for Copy, CTRL X for Cut ('cause it looks like scissors & C was taken by copy), CTRL and V for paste (think of an arrow pointing "here" as P was taken by Print - so Yes, in Windows, CTRL and P will Print).

This endeth today's lesson.

Boston-- I press " option" key and then tap on the trackpad and the image becomes "highlighted" (my term--it looks like its in a pale blue box). Then I click copy from the drop down menu above, then go to the forum, and then hit "command V"

Something weird in that link. ETA: Oh!!! the end tag has to be /img to tell the browser that it's the end.

Here it is copied from the pic itself: [img ]http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c262/bostonpyramidbuilder/426360_2743359031446_1481584829_32092046_102054685 5_n.jpg[/img ]

Tried it exactly as described and sure I can copy the info, but it still doesn't produce a picture. Is it possible that administration has somehow turned off some peoples ability to use HTML in which case pictures couldn't be posted ? And if so, how would I be able to see if my ability to post an image is somehow being blocked by the site and not by some level of incompetence on my part ?

well that was interesting, I went over to safari and tried to log in, didn't let me. at the bottom of the screen it says

You may not post new threads
You may not post replies
You may not post attachments
You may not edit your posts

BB code is On
Smilies are On
[IMG] code is On
[VIDEO] code is On
HTML code is Off
Forum Rules

makes no sense, I logged in and it says welcome, but then it says doesn't act like I'm logged in ? Someones got things all screwed up around here. Course it could just as likely be me, but why would it let me post from firefox and not from safari ?

somethings all screwed up, I can see my last post over on the window I have opened on safari, and it says I'm logged in, but it won't allow me to post. This gets crazier by the moment. If I'd been banned or something, thing would tell me ? right ?

Granted I've never tried to log in from safari but still, should work the same right ? Besides I've had the same trouble posting pictures as everyone else, or at least some significant fraction of them. Crazy but if its inaccurate about my not being able to post then its probably inacurate about the HTML codes.

yep...it worked. Try img rather than IMG with no spaces in the entire line

Boston... did you change your email address in your info? When I did mine the same thing you describe happened. I had to assume a new identity in order to resume posting. See my signature line. I can still log in as Lewisboats but I can't do anything.

Hmmmmm, That could be it Steve. I originally signed up under an email address also linked to this browser. My junk mail email address is linked to the safari browser. I just hadn't ever tried to log in on safari before.

I've had nothing but trouble copying and pasting from, well, doesn't matter where. Even typing in the code doesn't seem to work. Is there a way to go into my profile and see if maybe HTML is turned on or off or if administration has done something to block my ability to post images ?

Go to forum actions/general settings (at the top of the page under the banner) and go through all the stuff down to the bottom.

editor ? source mode ?

English please

Here is a direct c&p from post 78:
http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...20546855_n.jpg (http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c262/bostonpyramidbuilder/426360_2743359031446_1481584829_32092046_102054685 5_n.jpg) <------ Houston we have a problem

Let us take the and out to try to help simplify things, and we have:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...20546855_n.jpg (http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c262/bostonpyramidbuilder/426360_2743359031446_1481584829_32092046_102054685 5_n.jpg)

So far so good.

Now look at the tool bar on "Quick Reply" and you will see that the first button is something that looks like A/A. As the others have noted this button will switch you back and forth between "source" mode and "WYSIWYG" mode. Source displays the actual IMG code, and WYSIWYG means what you see is what you get.

When you switch to source mode, the direct cut and paste becomes:

[ URL="http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c262/bostonpyramidbuilder/426360_2743359031446_1481584829_32092046_102054685 5_n.jpg"]http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...20546855_n.jpg[ /URL]
(I have inserted three blank spaces inside the brackets to invalidate the code so that it will not show up on display.)

And now we can see some of your problem. I do not know if it is with the Forum software, or the browser, or the human interface thereof, but I do think that if you can clean things up to make it look like this, it should work:

[ img]http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...20546855_n.jpg[ /img] Go ahead and just c&p what is immediately preceding, not forgetting to omit the 3 spaces, and see what happens.

I hope that this works for you.

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...20546855_n.jpg (http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c262/bostonpyramidbuilder/426360_2743359031446_1481584829_32092046_102054685 5_n.jpg)

nope

editor ? source mode ?

English please

there seems to be two or three methods some of yuou have developed to get around the system thats not working for the rest of us. Care to define step by step ( in english if possible ) each of these various methods ?

Arright. So, you're posting. There are icons up at the right of the dialogue box you're typing in. There are letters up on the left. On the far left side, there are a small black A and a large blue A. If you hover your cursor over that for a moment, the words "switch editor to source mode" will show. Click on it, and you are in source mode, whatever that is.

No, go back into the dialogue box and click where you want to put the picture. Now click on the icon of a tree, third from the right. This will put up a dialogue box and above it, you'll click on the words "from URL." Now, you've got a line to past the URL in. Below that is a box with a green check mark that says it's going to retrieve remote file and reference locally. I've never found a picture small enough to do that, so click on the box and the check mark will disappear.

Now, you are ready to copy the URL for the picture. Where do you get that? If you're in Firefox, you go to the picture (in a different tab than the one you've got the forum on, and right click on the picture. A menu will come up, and you will left click on the words "copy image location." Then you go back to your WBF tab and click on that line for the URL. Hit Control V and the URL will appear as if by magic in that line. Hit Okay.

What will appear in your post is all those complicated little bits they've been teaching you to type. If you hit the A/A in the upper left again, the picture will at last appear. It sounds more complicated than it is.

John, OK so now I have clicked after highlighting the letter A icon on the far right of the input box. went to URL and then eliminated the highlighted remote file option

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c2...20546855_n.jpg

but you lost me on this part

Now, you are ready to copy the URL for the picture. Where do you get that? If you're in Firefox, you go to the picture (in a different tab than the one you've got the forum on, and right click on the picture. A menu will come up, and you will left click on the words "copy image location." Then you go back to your WBF tab and click on that line for the URL. Hit Control V and the URL will appear as if by magic in that line. Hit Okay.

I think I copied the URl for the picture ( see above and define URL please, although I've been cutting and pasting URL codes for years ) to the box provided. Ive copied image location and pasted into the area provided. I also hit OK after doing that. However you can see the result is just as before. No picture

I've been posting pictures on various forums and websites for years and never bumped into such a screwed up system as this. Although I may be the one guy to stick with trying to fix it I'm obviously not the only guy who's had this problem, or there wouldn't be a thread dedicated to just this kinda trouble.

Deal is
I don't think its on my end. Two days and multiple suggestions all of which have been gainfully been tried and still no go ? Sorry but I'm seriously doubting if the issue is on my end.

All I can suggest is that the moderator check my access to the site and then report back to us on if its some administrations setting or not that is preventing me or any of our other members who are having the same difficulties from posting.

I'm very appreciative of all the suggestions but at some point its just not reasonable to think the issue is on my end. Two days later and still unable to post a picture is a bit ridiculous. Something is very screwed up.

Boston

So having tried every suggestion from every response I think its fair to say the issue is with the site and not the users. So if your just reading the thread for the first time, no, your not the only one who is unable to post whatever. Apparently the site software is simply not conducive to all users.

johnw
10-08-2012, 01:20 AM
Well, I'm a little hesitant to say it's the site, when I and others can post pictures. As to your question about URLs,
Uniform Resource Locator (URL) it is the global address of documents and other resources on the World Wide Web

which probably means as much to you as to me. It's the address for the picture. I suppose it's possible for the site you've got your pix on to be incompatible with WBF. I'm using Picasa, what are you using?

And I do think we're making progress. Your earlier posts showed on my screen as text, those in post 82 show on my screen as "sorry, this person moved or deleted this image."

So you've moved beyond not being able to post anything but text, on to an entirely new frontier of confusion.

OK - another attempt.

I saw that your links are to PhotoBucket. At least some were.

Open your album in PhotoBucket & choose a picture by clicking on it. When you do, the following menu should come up:

http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa372/garretmott/PhotoB.png

See the "IMG code" at the bottom? Click on that - which copies the img to the clipboard. Then come here & paste that directly into a post (which is what I did with the above).

That should work.
