View Full Version : Help finding a special mug

My wife has her heart set on a specific Otagiri Japan Bird of Paradise black mug, originally designed by Tom Taylor, probably about 1980. A picture is here:

Unlike some clones on multi-fluted mugs, this one has bright colors, red leaves etc.

I ordered this mug via eBay from hummingbirdharbor, and heard back from them that they had unintentionally sent the only one to someone who ordered the less good mug. No way to get it back. I have been searching unsuccessfully for another.

If any of you have seen one, please let me know. Thanks!

That's very nice; I can see why she wants one. There's a pair for sale on eBay that look identical (http://www.ebay.com/itm/MUGS-2-FROM-OTAGIRI-JAPAN-BIRD-OF-PARADISE-1980S-EX-CONDITION-RARE-/260918093042?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cbfee24f2#ht_500wt_1005), although it's very hard to tell about colors; photographs can vary so much depending on lighting.

The original one:

The ones currently for sale. The photo's not nearly as good.

They won't break the bank; I'd take a chance, and perhaps she'll find a way to show her gratitude!

Hope springs eternal, ya know.

Sara has seen the multi-fluted mugs with gold-rather-than-red leaves, and is not interested...

I'd bet a fair amount they're identical, and it's just the much better lighting in the first photograph. Well, it's a $20 bet; your call.

contact the original manufacturer or look around your OP shops.
