Actually 'twas Saturday that I made the big 54 but I made a three day weekend of it. One of those cruises where despite the best laid plans everything went exactly right.

Mary Ellen & I added a friend, Susan my kayak buddy, and her niece to the crew so we had 4 kayaks as well as the dink along - about 160' LOA is all boats put end to end.

Sailed in company to Edgartown. Nice dinner afloat as this year's corn is wonderful. A bit of gossip and a bit of paddeling.

Breakfast in town with me not only agreeing to go ashore, and ashore in a town, but even by launch. Susan & her niece had to take the ferry back and MaryEllen & I went back to Grana for a serene sail around to Vinyard Haven. As we entered Holmes Hole a lovely classic yawl got shots of our underwater art. Agreed to see the prints at the Moffett Cup in September.

The plan was to see the final show of "The Complete Works of William Shakespere, Abridged" at 1700 in the Tashmoo Amphitheater.

Another depraved choise to take a launch in - I'm going soft and depraved and the Vinyard Haven launch which is notoriously hard to reach was right there to take us in early. Even more depraved ,, we chose to grab a cab even though it's only a 1/2 hour walk and we had plenty of time . . .

Or so we thought till we got there an hour early and found the show about to start but there was still space for two more close in stage right.

Those how have caught this show will know how marvelous it is. It's making the rounds of the better community theaters so keep alert.

A quiet walk back from 'Shmoo to Holmes Hole punctuated by a somewhat tipsey biker chick - more like biker matron - stopped in traffic leaning over to remark on my faded breton red pants and her biker guy in front telling her to get her foot out and neither Mary Ellen nor myself believing that this is happening as the big hog tipped in slow motion over on its side . . .

And sunset with cold beef, cheese & fruit with libation of choise.

Monday morning we got up a bit late and wandered into the Black Dog (despite the local issues - felt a bit like a scab) again by launch and remarkably enough in with minimal delay. The menue is still good.

Wandered over to see what was up with Nat & Ross and on to see the Amistad.

And then a lovely romp back to Hyannis with both tide and wind.

Despite some cavillier lack of correct planning and generally goofing off, everything went smoothly and on time. Somedays we're just plain blessed.

Fair winds.

Hmmmm, a Leo. I never would have guessed. Extravagantly good at disguises...

"You consider yourself a born leader. Others think you are pushy. Most Leo people are bullies. You are vain and dislike honest chriticism. Your arrogance is disgusting. Leo people are known thieves."

Makes one wonder about the source of that bottom art, LOL.

Happy Birthday Ian. Thanks for the deja-vu (walking about from VH to Tashmoo).

Uh....A question Ian. When you said the the hog tipped over in slow motion, did you mean the bike itself or the biker chic/matron? Either way, I think I would have laughed so hard I would have peed in my red pants if I were you. :D
Happy Birthday to you and I hope the next one goes as well.

Shane - As it happens Mary Ellen is also a leo - Aug 6, just a young'un of 48 - so we can make this a real birthday week.

Kevin - The guy had his foot out and the babe was hanging out (really hanging past her trusses and cantalevers) to remark on my pants. He started yelling that she should get her foot out and all she could do was remark (perhaps sarcasticly?) on how cool my pants were so ever so slow over they go.

We could have grabbed them anytime except we didn't really believe that it was happening.

Once they were over, it was very apparant that they were too weakend by whiskey to get it back up. As the traffic backed up, Mary Ellen and I just gasped in laughter. Fortunatly, the long arm of the law arrived to help them in the way they most needed.

It was almost as good as watching a tupperware 'sail boat' - one of those froggy crypto IOR thingy's with the anchor cleats right on the rail and no chocks.

As so often, the brawney guy was at the helm hurtling orders while the woman was up in the bow struggling. She got the anchor - a watch fob with a few feet of 'chain' over with about a 1:1 scope and they dragged back a few hundred yards. Drew it up and came ahead to try again.

This time she got some scope out because they accidently snagged something on the bottom. I could almost see smoke coming off her hands as she held as best she could - no idea of snubbing on the cleat - which knumbo at the helm backed down with full power. Eventually he went neutral and she cleated off with, accidentally enough, about 6:1 scope.

We could see their mast in motion yesterday morning as they struggled for about 3/4 hr to get loose but we were watching from the serene distance of a window seat at the Dog and did not have a detailed view. Thank god for small mercies.
