Special thanks to Canoez for providing not only the original GFHs (Great Flat Hughs), but also this smaller, more portable GFH (PGFH?)!!!....
I do think that it would be lots of fun for GFH to make the complete rounds....
A weekend on the beach with Bernadette...(Weekend with Bernie) Dinner and dancing with someone in London..... A sail off the coast of Brazil with another.... Canal cruising Germany... Etc.....

Cool idea, but perhaps to state the obvious, GFH needs to photographed in front of place specific and iconic backdrops from various locations.

Generic greenery and open water could theoretically be done in one locale without ever leaving one's own backyard.

There he is again!

Looks pretty good for someone who's been rummaged over really well by customs. What did they think they'd find, hell, he was just in a brown paper package with a page of stickers and arriving from Pakistan. What could be the problem with that?

Sundays sail was all about crew orientation in preperation for the race in a couple of weeks. GFHugh likes to ask questions , but he's just going to have to get his act together. I mean , " Number 1 kite , port pole, gybe in 30 ", whats clearer than that ?

There I was pottering about in the shed, trying to think about getting some work done, when there was a loud banging on the side of the shed. I looked up from my "task" and there he was:

http://pic80.picturetrail.com/VOL1913/10058894/24202474/404884978.jpg

Enthusiastic to say the least! Within seconds of introductions he went over and raised the saw blade. "Nice machine! Pity the blade's blunt!"

http://pic80.picturetrail.com/VOL1913/10058894/24202474/404884976.jpg

He had to board Looe for a look at my stalled progress.

http://pic80.picturetrail.com/VOL1913/10058894/24202474/404884980.jpg

It didn't take long before he complained about the heat, so I suggested a dip in the pool.

http://pic80.picturetrail.com/VOL1913/10058894/24202474/404884977.jpg

He tells me that John kicked him out of NZ in a fit of pique. I told him I didn't believe him. "Well you can believe what you want Duncs!"

He's going to help me fine tune the jib sheeting arrangement on TMP in a few days.

well a weekend at bernies is fine but this guy showed up the other day saying he was the GFH's twin brother. so i figured, yeah right. i didnt believe him. anyhow being the consumate host, i took him out to the barrier reef to show him the loch ness monster. i took this picture of him. it got a bit like the grail skit from the monty python movie for a while there...i recall him telling me about how he'd seen the loch ness monster, and i said, "yeah well, we (already) got one, too..."

Man that guy gets around. Duncan - with the good weather down there you might have trouble getting the house guest to go home! I think the subtle hint is a pineapple in the guest room...

Then again, he's a woodworker - maybe you can put him to work on your Dragon?

If I'm not mistaken, the stickers are little Margo portraits, as drawn by Chuck "Paladin" Phillips. I think the idea was to stick them on your car windows..... Why?....... You'll have to ask Carter.....

I think Chuck drew it one year when I wasn't going to be there :o :o He certainly took some ... er .... artistic license :o :o

I couldn't believe Carter saved it and now we have stickers?????? Good grief.

If nothing else, this should serve as a lesson on what happens if you miss an EBS ;) :D

Christ in a Hand Basket! There's going to be a run on eye bleach!:eek::eek:

Seriously, let the fact that Flat Hugh is being mailed around the world and Chuck penned this caricature of me be a lesson to anyone who misses next year's EBS at Lefty & Carters :D

He found his way into my filing system and went to sleep! No joke!

As a result he missed out on Hobart. :o

I hear tell he's going on a short trip to Mainz and Singapore to make up for it... Stay tuned. ;)

As we promised him here he is in Singapore:

Just to make sure that there are no misunderstandings and wrong reports: it was not Hugh you met along the trail at the Zingarro nature park in Sicily last weekend, it was me. Note, we can be distiguished by my not having a beard under the chin.

The doorbell rang and I was a bit slow to answer. Looking out of my office window to see who it was, I was very surprised to see our friend Hugh Mann, aka GFH ...

http://mirrordiscussforum.org/pictures/gernots/WBF/gfh_visits.jpg

Over a cup of tea and biscuits, he explained that after his visits to Singapore, Australia and the like there had been some hassle involving MI6, NSA and his personal documents. Apparently somebody had written that he was even suspected of being a Mirrorist, having spent some time down under with a notorious member of that social group. As a result,he was forced to go undercover for a while.

Anyway I offered him asylum at our home for a while. Seeing that Mr. Snowden had found a haven in Putinland and Mr. Assange is safely tucked away at an embassy in London, our guest bedroom is free.

As the problem is being corrected by the powers that be, he says he'd like to continue his travels but is not sure where his next destination will be. I suppose he'll let us all know when he's fed up with Berlin.

Perhaps Martin Schulz will show him around Flensburg.

GFH says to say hello to all and thanks to the hosts who put him up in the past!

Kohlsuppe is out of season. Eisbein mit Erbsenpuree und Sauerkraut with a good draught Schultheiss will probably revive him, though.

We found more beauties at the Classics and Restoration hall. The Freundeskreis Klassischer Yachten / German Classic Yachts Association (http://fky.org) was there too, it's worth visiting their site.

I forgot to mention the person Xhibiting the 12er: Teut Juncker (http://www.Ihr-Yachtgutachter.de) , a local yacht surveyor.
When we got to the Classics and restoration hall, GFH had stripped down to a T-shirt as it was warm there, so we went to find a beer and try out the gimbal bottle-holder at the Aero-Verft (http://www.aero-vaerft.com)(Denmark) stand

Re: "buff!" - do you mean the fuzzy picture? I was using SWMBO's smartphone and I'm not used to those things. It must have triggered the shutter before I stopped moving trying to get a perfect angle.
Found a picture of the bottle-holder on the manufacturer's web site:

Maybe archaic, but remember that I come from (and have absorbed the Anglo-saxon language) in different cultures than you have  .
