Cleaned out old (putty) fill from tongue& grove cedar subdeck. What's best to replace it with? Will be applying Dynel after.

Are you planning a wood deck over the Dynel or is it the final deck? If Dynel is the final deck then an epoxy filler surch as West System 407 Low density Filler can be used. The 407 is nothing more than red micro balloons and is easy to knife in, and sand fair. In either case the balloons and epoxy are a simple way to fair the surface. Another way to go, if a planked deck is going over it is to use canvas set in white lead. The cavas is a moisture barrier and the white lead is a fungicide that also remains slightly flexible.
