Am I doing something screwy or are others having problems also?
I was trying to find postings on the subject of making deadeyes. All I get is a blank page. :(

Same problem.
Anyone know how to fix it?

It's been like that for a while and there have been several posts on the subject. Hopefully they're working on it...

Hmmm. I thought it was just me and my invisibility problems...

At this point I am satisfied that the search engine is Kaput. But can anyone enlighten me on the task of making deadeyes. (other than a poke with a sharp stick?)

Well ya get a block of lignum viate and cut away everything that does not look like a dead eye. Seriously.

I kinda sorta thought that it went something like that. I understand that before lignum vitae elm was used. But I suppose any reasonably hard, not easily split wood, that doesn't fall apart when it gets wet, will work.

Yeah, the search function has been crapped out for a while now.

I know we don't pay for this site (though I pay for my magazine subscription) but I sure wish they (he) would at least communicate with the board a little regarding whats up and if they will ever fix it.

I emailed the admin and all I got back was a "yup, thanks" nothin else.

Not the best communication, even for a free board.

Jeff, I melt beeswax and pine tar together about a 70:30 mix, use it mostly for tarring small stuff for lashings. Maybe add a little boiled linseed oil for dealing with wood?

Has anybody checked with Scot?

IIRC Ashley's "Book of Knots" or perhaps Hervey Garrett Smith's "The Marlinspike Sailor" show how to make deadeyes. Live oak, mesquite and ebony are other woods I've seen them made from.

I dunno for certain, it could be valve guides and seals ya know. If we could get our pinkies on it we could do a test or two...

Not working for me either.
So I got out the can of 'Start Ya Bastard!' and...

well, it still doesn't work,
but you should see how clean my screen is!
