View Full Version : Microwave/radio problem

In our kitchen, we have a satelite radio on one counter and our microwave oven about 10' away on another counter. Antenna is right next to the radio on a windowsill. Seems that whenever the microwave is running, the signal for the radio is lost. Total silence while the popcorn is being nuked.
Any electrical engineers out there who can explain this?
Is it time for me to put on my tin-foil hat?

Magnets will do it too. How is your fridge and Nuke doing with them? Our Nuke is 4 foot away from the reciever, never a problem. Might want to buy another microwave, and see results. Try the "Popcorn" button compared to reheat coffee? Be safe.

Maybe you can sell the technology to the USN , sounds like something a Prowler could use.

But really the Prowler already has that technology and more I'm sure.

Your microwave is jamming your radio , move one or the other.

Another thing it could be is your microwave is screwed up, and leaking or directing the microwaves in a manner it's not suppose to do.

Door seal...OTOH, people pay good money if it's broke. Buy large film strips. Ughh...$80.00, go buy another and test it. If it is leaking- Blue eyed EEK.

I think it is your microwave "leaking some high frequency garbage that happens to fall in the bandwidth of your receiver. It is a large enough signal that the protection circuits in the front end of the receiver shut down the input to protect the receiver itself. Try draping tin foil around or over the microwave and see if the symptoms change. If not just start wearing it for a hat.|:)
