Why are the fastenings on edge glued strip plankers every third or so boards and not every board?(hull to frame) On major keel frames, below the waterline mine are on every plank.
Is there a reason or just economy of time and materials? Perhaps on lesser frames, too many fasteners tend to weaken the frame?

I have two on each plank - two 10cm copper nails.

Can't say I know why, but mine is the same. Lots of edge nails, all glued seams and every third or fourth plank screwed to a frame in an almost random pattern. Seem to have worked though. She's 45 years old and I'm doing the first bottom work she's ever needed. Granted, she's needed it for about 20 years. I promise that some day I'll stop procrastinating.

Some very experienced folks have said to get maximum strength, you screw -every- plank to the frames, and you stagger the screws so you cover half the frames per plank.

So, no screw is directly above another one. That'd be an awful lot of screws tho..

Many other authorities say to screw every third 'or so' plank in at the same vertical position.

Im sure the difference in strength is negligable (staggered single course), but I think it might look nice.
