I can't find it, and I don't know if it was a joke or not, but this ad would have us believe that immigrants cause global warming.

That's not at all what it was about.

"Produce four times the carbon they produce in their home countries"

Hard to argue with........

It's a bunch calling themselves Californians for Population Stabilization. Mainly by blocking immigrants. Central claim is that immigrants create four times the carbon here than they would in their home nations. Well doooh. They've moved to the energy waste capital of the universe to take part in the most energy intensive and energy wasteful economy in human history. The solution is to reform our energy habits, not keep hard working people away.

As usual, Ian pegs it.

Just wait 10 years. When a significant portion of the Baby Boomers have retired we will desparately need immigrants to do the work. Just wait and see.

...and of course, it was mistimed, as stories this week point out that net Mexican immigration is now zero.

More craziness in Arizona, too. When the Tea Party gets done wrecking the State, we could simply give it back to the Apache, or whatever Tribe of Native People who want it, for free.

Central claim is that immigrants create four times the carbon here than they would in their home nations. Well doooh. They've moved to the energy waste capital of the universe . . I'd put it another way, and more accurately: richer people produce more CO2 than poorer people. Most third world countries aren't at all energy-efficient, just poor.

so I guess the answer to global warming is to keep all the poor people in the world poor. How simple!

The idea is to have Californians moved to poor countries where they will consume less.

I thought most Californians were poor

I thought most Californians were poor

perhaps, but they're still richer than most Mexicans.

In the US, California has the ninth highest per capita income, and this despite having plenty of poor folk who pull the average down. Even with that, being poor by California standards takes a lot more cash than most places.
