View Full Version : My Wa'apa Build

Finally getting where it looks like I may have a boat eventually, yay!!!! http://photobucket.com/TAKwaapa
Lots of epoxy and glass bought from Duckworks. Don't worry about the wood, it ain't what I would be using if other factors weren't involved.
Starting to cut 1x2s for the chines and such. That assembly behind the drill is my jig I built so I could rip the strips out of 1x8s.

I failed to get pics of the hull sides and bulkheads loose. Here is the first half screwed together.

The whole main hull in 3d.

The bottom on. This was my whiskey plank but there was no whiskey in the house, so it was the Guinness plank.

And here is the entire main hull with her coat of glass on the outside and completely coated in epoxy. Its getting exciting now. As you can tell from the pics this is mainly happening in my dining room. What does a bachelor need with a dining room? I'm babysitting a giant, fearsome pitbull named Bunny for the week so the build has been put on hold until she leaves. Don't need to come home to a dog wrapped in fiberglass and epoxy.

I know I desperately need to update pictures, but when I'm covered in sweat, sawdust, paint, epoxy, etc.. I don't want to touch the camera.
I may have just found the right build plaques for her though. http://nerdapproved.com/misc-weirdness/firefly-replica-builders-plaques-bumper-stickers-in-stock/

I've never tried this from the iPod before.
The main hull is now glassed, way too epoxied, and has a base coat of paint. I think I'm going to get silly and paint a big old fashioned dolphin down the side. The beams are well underway. haven't started my amas yet. I've settled on foam for them.

Looks good! What ama are you going to do in foam?

I've been using Gary Dierking's book. I'm leaning towards the Ulua style ama.
